Trends in coaching will shape this ever increasing market. ICF research, talks of 3 trends that will shape the future of coaching which are;

  1. Increased Demand for Coaching Services
  2. Great Coaching Opportunities in Niche Sectors
  3. Confirmation of Qualifications

What an exciting time in coaching with so many possibilities. However an over saturated, noisy market can potentially lead to overwhelm for us coaches. What can we do to reduce that overwhelm?

A move towards more personal growth for everyone

There is more acceptance and understanding of what coaching is. We’re moving away from only a select few senior managers/CEOs having access to a coach. There is more of a move towards more personal growth for everyone.

  • How are you letting people know what you do? What conversations are you having?
  • What associate coaching companies might be able to help you find your clients?
  • How might you use technology to help grow your client base and business? This interesting podcast from the British Psychological Society Division of Coaching discusses how coaching is changing from a technological perspective.

Having a consistent message

In a busy market standing out is key. Having a niche doesn’t stop you from coaching people in different areas, it just helps give a consistent message so people can find you. So whether you’re a life coach, executive coach or health coach, having a consistent message can help give you focus.

  • What is it that makes you stand out?
  • How are you conveying your consistent message?
  • What results do you get from clients? What is the common problem you help them solve?

Celebrate your qualifications and experience

This is huge as the market becomes more crowded. Also unfortunately there will be people calling themselves coaches who are not actually coaching (or coaches!). Be proud of the qualification you have. Strive to keep growing and learning. Model this for your clients.

  • What skills, qualifications, experience do you already have?
  • How can you to continue to grow and develop as a coach?
  • How can you be a more Reflective Coach?

Being with our coachees rather than doing

Dr Drake the founder of the Center for Narrative Coaching & Design talks about “de-centering” ourselves as coaches, to get out of our own way. Being with our coachees rather than doing to them. So stressing less about the perfect tool/model to use and reminding ourselves who we are as coaches and who we are becoming. This way we are less likely to get carried away with this rush in the coaching market and be more grounded.
